History Will Tell

There's not a whole lot of news coming from Iraq recently, except for the casual campaign highlight reels making note of some minor comments made by the two presidential nominees from time to time. There's a "good" reason for this: Iraq has greatly improved. Hopefully most Americans realize by now that the media favors bad news over good, because it sells more. Well, as a result, the American public received a good earful on the bad news in 2005-2006, but have received a mere whisper in 2008 when things are much better. David Brooks lays out how the surge has worked and few seem to notice. However, I'm not saying that Iraq is "solved" or that everyone can come home and throw a big party, just that the surge strategy has done precisely what it was designed to do. Isn't it interesting that floods, fires, and gas prices seemed to fill an all-to-convenient void in the wake of the lowest casualties in the entire war? Just saying.
