I Demand an Apology

I've always liked snow ever since I could remember. I wish for it, yearn for it, hope for it. This often puts me at odds with most others because they concentrate on the treacherous, dangerous, and event-canceling aspect of it (minor detail...) Every winter I look forward to the possibility of a blizzard and thus go into extreme weather watching mode. My family and friends have always made fun of me for this obsessive weather behavior, but that doesn't bother me. However, I will tell you what bothers me...wrong forecasts! Recently, meteorologists from Indianapolis to Baltimore were all predicting record snowfalls. For here, it was originally supposed to be 3-5 inches with sleet and ice. Just to our north, over a foot was being called for. As for Indy, Fox 59's weatherman actually said that for the first time ever in his career, he will actually call for a full-fledged blizzard. Of course, that made me insanely jealous, because I'm here now and not there, but that "blizzard" turned out to be 4 crappy inches. As for here...nothing but stupid, boring rain. In fact, the areas that were supposed to get over a foot (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, etc.) also got mainly rain! They were so far off on this one, but they never say, "oops, sorry folks, we were wrong, sorry about that." Nope, they just go one talking about the next day's weather. This reminds me of the news in general. The goal is to get you to tune in and they could care less if it's really accurate in the end, as long as they're all saying something similar (ie. the ridiculous claims of cannibalism after Hurricane Katrina). Silly broadcasters...exaggerations are for kids.

Anyway, if you don't want a blizzard, then just send it my way, I'll take it with open arms (and a shovel). The picture below is lake effect snow in upstate New York, 6 feet of it!!! That actually is a little scary to me, but I'll take four feet...

Still Not Quite There

It's weird really... I am having the longest personal news dry spell in a long time. I blame it on Christmas. I'm really into it this year, more than past years. Maybe it's the fact that I'm married, or truly have my own place, or that family and friends are far away and I look forward to seeing them. At any rate, every time I start to do my news rounds, I discover that I'd rather not get angry about world events, and instead listen to Christmas music or Christmas movies. This has all probably been good for the blood pressure too :-)

So, for right now I'm going to continue to butcher Christmas songs as I sing them, eat sugary cookies, and watch Christmas movies to my heart's content. Gotta problem with that???
