Miracles Unnoticed

I think that it's safe to say that most people do not fully trust the media. The source of the distrust can be any number of reasons (past sensationalism, distortions, shady-looking reporters, etc.) Whatever it may be, most people understand that the news is almost entirely negative. Their job is to get us riled up and angry so we watch/read more of it. Good news, on the other hand, isn't as catchy and thus not really reported. Of course, there are other motivations for not reporting good news. This can include news stories that don't fit the news service's viewpoint. Well, a case in point is this story I found out of Iraq. Muslims and Christians worked together to put up a cross on St. Johns Church in Baghdad. In case you didn't know, thousands of Christians have fled the city because of the (largely Sunni) death squads, however violence is way down, so Muslims and Christians alike are saying, "Come back home!" to their fellow Iraqi Christians.

This image was taken by a guy named Michael Yon, who has been in Iraq for several years and is now acting as a quasi-amateur journalist embedded with US troops. You see, most reporters never leave the green zone in Baghdad, thus they rely almost entirely on secondhand reports (or even third and fourth-hand reports). This is yet another reason why we're not getting all the facts about Iraq. Anyway, this guy, Michael Yon, goes on patrols and has great rapport with the troops. He's a great source. Check him out if you want.

Here's a little of what Michael wrote about this picture:

The Iraqis asked me to convey a message of thanks to the American people. ” Thank you, thank you,” the people were saying. One man said, “Thank you for peace.” Another man, a Muslim, said “All the people, all the people in Iraq, Muslim and Christian, is brother.” The men and women were holding bells, and for the first time in memory freedom rang over the ravaged land between two rivers.

Great stuff...but something you'll probably never see in the mainstream media.
